The Turn-Around Test: Have You Checked the Back View?
Share
Most of us get dressed facing a mirror. We check the neckline, smooth the front of the skirt, make sure the hem looks right—and then walk away.
But half of an outfit is behind us.
The next step in the Modest & Devoted Wardrobe Check is the Turn-Around Test.
Look From Behind
Use a second mirror, a phone camera, or someone you trust to check the back of your complete outfit. Stand naturally first, then walk and sit.
Look for fabric that becomes more fitted across the back or hips than it appeared from the front. Check whether a back slit opens, whether a top has ridden upward, and whether underlayers or garment lines are more visible than you expected.
Check for Sheerness
Light often hits the back of clothing differently. Stand near a bright window or in ordinary daylight and make sure the fabric provides the coverage you intended. Light-colored skirts and dresses deserve particular attention, but any fabric can become more revealing when stretched or strongly backlit.
Look at the Whole Silhouette
The purpose is not to criticize your shape. It is to understand the garment. A piece can be fully covered and still fit much more closely in one area than you realized.
If the fit creates more emphasis than you are comfortable with, a different size, a longer layer, a slip, or another silhouette may solve the problem beautifully.
Make 360 Degrees the Habit
Before leaving home in something new, check front, side, back and movement. It takes less than a minute and gives you a much more accurate picture of how the outfit will appear throughout the day.
Modesty is easier when we dress with intention instead of discovering surprises later.
Next in the Wardrobe Check: we will look at something a mirror can miss completely—what happens when ordinary light passes through your clothing.
